Chapter 1
“Okay, I like this one,” Lexy said as she twirled from side to side, in the mirror , looking at how the dress ,out out, hugged her body. aa
“Let me see,” Ryan’s voice echoed in the dressing room from the phone propped up in a chair. Lexy walked into her view and Ryan smiled.
“Yeah, I like that one too.”
“I’m going to get it and some shoes to match, and on another note, when are you coming to visit?”
“Soon Lex, I just gotta settle some things and let Ava know. I miss y’all so much.”
“I miss you too sis, how are they?” Lexy asked.
“Some days are better than others.”
“They should come home too. Speaking of, I need to call Ava and check on my baby anyway,” Lexy said, referring to the child growing in Ava’s belly.
“Yeah, you should call her when you can,” Ryan suggested. “I gotta go. I think Josh just got home.”
“Okay, big sis.” Lexy ended the call as she slid her handbag on her shoulder.
Lexy made her purchases and left out the mall and headed to her car. As she approached, she pulled her key out and before she could hit the unlock button; she heard someone calling her.
“Lex, is that you?”
Lexy turned her head to see who was addressing her by name.
“Hey AJ!” she smiled at him as he jogged up to meet her.
“What you doing up here?” Lexy she asked with a smirked
“I needed to go to the Apple store, they busy as fuck though. Just set my appointment and I’m gone wait.”
“Boy, you should’ve known they’d be busy.” Lexy chuckled
“You right, but I’m about to get some food. Tryna join me?” he suggested.
“Damn, I can’t. I'm meeting up with my mom. Raincheck?”
“Oh yeah, no doubt. I’m gone hit you up.” AJ winked and flashed his boyish grin and walked away.
“Okay,” Lexy said smiling, she didn’t notice AJ at first but ever since he’d been coming around more often, she saw him for more than the kid who was looking for acceptance. He was becoming a man, a fine ass man, if she had to say so herself.
Lexy pulled out of the parking lot of Kenwood Mall and made a right turn into traffic. There was one more stop to make before it was time to meet her mom. Lexy rode through the city with her windows down, music blasting, and allowing the spring air to blow through her hair, Lexy’s attention was pulled to her rearview mirror. She noticed a red Honda that had been behind her since she left the mall; it was almost dismissed but when she made a left turn at the last minute and watched the car follow her. She knew. Subtly, she pulled her gun out from the center console and placed it on her lap while continuing to drive.
“Call Mama,” Lexy commanded her car stereo, turning the volume down. Rosalyn didn’t answer “Shit!” She hit the steering wheel.
Call Wayne.” She tried again.
“Baby Gangst-“
“I don’t have much time,” she interrupted him. “I activated my phone tracker. Someone has been tailing me since I left Kenwood. My mama ain’t answering. Find me if this shit goes left Wayne.”
“Lexy, sit tight. AJ is in your area. Keep them driving don’t handle nothing on your own.”
“I’ll stall them as long as I can.” She said, looking in her rearview mirror again.
BOOM
“AAGHHHH!” Lexy screamed out as the car rammed into the back of her, causing her to lurch forward and drop her gun.
“What is happening? Wayne asked.
“They making their move. Find me Wayne,” Lexy said sternly.
The car hit her again and, and she surprised her pursuers moving quickly making them lose control the car but recovering quickly. They sped up and caught the edge of her car, causing her to spin out into the other lane of traffic. Someone hit her on the other side of the road and she spun again, coming to a stop.. Lexy’s head hit the steering wheel hard, and she laid her head on the horn, not moving. The sound of footsteps coming toward her alerted her to get up reaching for the gun, she groaned. Someone opened her door and touched her neck to find a pulse.
“She’s still breathing. lets Let's grab this bitch and get out of here!” A guy yelled.
“Is she alive?” His partner asked
“Yeah, she is. Let’s ge-
POW
Lexy held her smoking gun with a bloody smirk as she got out of her seatbelt and fell on the ground.
“You BITCH! That was my brother!” The other man said. Lexy caught his accent right before everything went black.

Rosalyn sat at a table watching the construction crew she hired work on her new restaurant. This would be a different business venture for her, but it’s something she always wanted to do. Rosalyn watched the front door open and when her guest stepped in, she smiled warmly.
“Aaron, how are you?” she asked, bringing him in for a hug before walking toward her office.
“I’m good, Ms. Ros. How is the family?”
“Just as crazy as always.” she She joked, and they both laughed.
“What made you stop by Aaron?” Rosalyn asked while shutting her office door.
Aaron’s face took on a solemn expression as he put his hands in his pockets. “You got a leak and I don’t know who it is yet, but you need to tighten the fuck up.”
“A leak?” Rosalyn jerked back, surprised by this news. “You should’ve led with that shit.”
“Yeah, and it’s a real threat, Ms. Ros. My friend in the department came to me excited about the fact that she could finally take you down with everything the snitch is giving up.”
“What exactly is the snitch giving up?”
“I will find out later today and be able to tell you more. I just wanted to warn you to be careful.” He explained.
“You just made everybody a suspect. When you know more, tell me the second after.”
“No doubt.”
Aaron was someone her trucking business benefited from in a big way. Rosalyn ran a legitimate business on the surface, but below that, she was one of the biggest transporters in the underworld. Anything that needed to be moved under the radar was pushed through her and in order for her to make that happen, as long as she had been, she needed people of power in her pocket. That is where Aaron came in, him being the lead narcotics detective. This wasn’t the first time she’d come across their radar, but she was able to evade them with Aaron’s help keeping her one step ahead. Rosalyn knew then there would be someone that who wouldn’t be sold on her legitimacy. Things were quiet for years. It was set up to be that way back when her father ran the business and she didn’t deviate, but the feeling never left her that there were eyes on her. Rosalyn was careful, but there is was a snitch and one good enough to take her down at that. This news tipped the scales, and it didn’t favor her at all. Rosalyn nodded her head, processing the bomb Aaron just dropped as she thought of who could be betraying her. She took in people who had something to lose for a reason; paid her camp well, took care of them, and set them up to succeed beyond this shit. Rosalyn didn’t put anything past anyone, but she couldn’t help being irritated by the disruption to her money this would cause.
“Thank you for the heads up,” annoyance dripped from her tone as she looked down and saw Lexy calling her phone.
“Come on, you're family, and you know I can’t lose the key ingredient for the shit I got going on either.”
“Key ingredient, huh?” Rosalyn chuckled, lifting one side of her mouth in a half smile at his remark. “Get me some info.”
“I’ll do that,” Aaron started to walk towards the door and stopped himself to leave her with one last thought. “Shit ain’t start getting shaky like this til those S&S niggas you run with got involved. Be careful.” Aaron warned, his disdain for S&S laced his tone.
“Anything you think you know about me or what I got going on. Erase that shit from your brain. You don’t know shit.” She shot back at him. He closed his mouth in response.
Rosalyn let out a deep sigh as Aaron left the room and answered her phone that was ringing again.
“We got a problem,” Wayne said before she said could say hello.

Lexy groaned as she woke up. Her head felt like someone banged it against a brick wall and as she opened her eyes, a bright light blinded her, causing her to groan again. She closed her eyes, hoping to block out the light.
“Ahhh, good morning princess,” a voice said, echoing off the walls. The light cut off completely, allowing Lexy to relax her eyes, but now she couldn’t see anything at all.
“Where am I? Who are you?” Lexy grumbled. Her mouth was dry, and her voice sounded groggy. She tried to lift her hands up and realized her arms were tied to the chair. Anyone else in her situation would begin panicking, but Lexy took a deep breath and answered her own question “Pacho.”
“DING, DING, DING!!” Pacho yelled, causing Lexy’s headache to pulse against her head again. “You and your bitch of a mother think you are so smart.” Pacho was in front of her now, so close that she could smell the liquor on his breath.
“What are you talking about?” Lexy asked. She fought hard to get through the haze clouding her mind now that she knew she was in danger.
WAM
Pacho slapped Lexy so hard that her head snapped to the right. She felt blood pour into her mouth and her anger mounted as she spit it out.
“I could’ve swallowed the death of Uncle Luke, but for the death of my father?” Pacho paused and spit in Lexy’s face. “You both will pay,” he hissed, then walked away, leaving Lexy in the dark warehouse alone again.
